About the Artist

The Art of Sharon Rutherford
After spending over 30 years in the U.S. Diplomatic Service, I retired and returned to New Mexico to pursue my art. For the past two years, I have studied oil painting from a well-known artist. I am a member of the Corrales Society of Artists. Just recently I exhibited over twenty of my oil paintings in a two-day exhibit which included potential clients from Albuquerque, Santa Fe and the Corrales, New Mexico area.
I briefly studied basic figure drawing at the University of California extension and have studied watercolors in New Mexico. My canvas cover the years I lived and worked in Africa. Many of the subjects show the tribes in Kenya, the Masaai, the Tauregs from Niger, and the Native Americans of New Mexico.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Business from accumulated work from the University of Virginia, University of New Mexico and Regents College, New York.
While working with the U.S.Department of State, I have lived and worked in Europe, The Philippines, Mexico and throughout the African continent.
I currently live in Corrales, New Mexico with my husband, Keith Rutherford. I have two sons and two step children.
